I recently took out a Lifeline service phone with Alltel. And already they have dropped the ball with me, AND my upstairs neighbor as well, 3 months out of four. To top it off, a chit of a girl "sales assistant" at the local Alltel store I originally went to asked me id I had thought about UPGRADING service! The implication was that "Lifeline was a problem for a lot of people, and the $40 per month plan would stop all that". That's a Federal Felony, and it's called Bait and Switch. That was made a crime in the 1972 Fair Credit Reporting Act, and again in the 1978 Telecommunications Act. I told this child this, and she got suspicious of me, and wouldn't give me anymore information. Here I was, trying to tell her NOT to do this, or she might go to jail (if she said it to the wrong person) and she got uppity with me! My neighbor asked me to drop off her monthly payment on the correct day at the Alltel store in Payette Idaho. Their computer was "offline" and they could not post the payment to my neighbor's account until two days from then! And then THEY TURNED OFF HER SERVICE!!! The bastards. I am going to make a formal complaint with the Idaho Public Utility Commission, and I am going to try very hard to see if I cannot impair Alltel's right to continue offering Lifeline service here in the Treasure Valley. That's a regulated form of service, even if it is offered by a Cellular company. I can only hope.
