Greetings,
Just this morning I called AM to help my next door neighbor to apply for a CostCo American Express Card. Initially, the AMERICAN gentleman was polite and tried to help but ran into an obstacle when we were talking about my neighbors tax status. Well, he stated that he was going to transfer me to new applications dept. So, the next thing I knew was that I was talking with someone who sounded like they were from Pakistan or India. They could not understand me very well at all. Her name I got was RUCHI. She never said please or thank you for that matter. Finally after trying to explain the situation for about 5 minutes she decided to tell me they would send my neighbor a letter stating the decision. She never explained what that decision would involve. BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE! What have you become, India Express Co. I want to talk to a native English speaker in the future not redirected to Pakistan or whatever. Hope that someone reads this

American Express has THE BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE. All others pale in comparison. My daughter, while traveling abroad, was a victim of debit card fraud, which deactivated her debit card and limited all access to her bank account. She contacted AX, and within 3 minutes was reconnected with her personal bank account with full access to cash. Within 3 minutes! Hasslefree! And the customer service rep with AX even stayed on the phone with her until he was certain that she was able to retrieve her funds. Kudos to American Express for reliable global services and the best customer service agents ever!

Why did you change the statement format? The old one had an + at each charge. Clicking on that gave details of the purchase. Please
bring the old format back. If I can't access details of the charge, I might as well use another credit card.

The India based customer service reps are very nice - but they are really quite useless. I tried to get a simple question answered and they danced and danced around, never answering my question. It's like they played games trying to be dumb.

We are cutting up the cards and closing the account. It is just not worth the headache, and I am nervous that they'll really mess something up. Our credit is too important to take chances with.

I am having a very rough time with Amex Travel. I am not able to get assistance with a mistake they made on my booking. I was on the phone for over 1.5 hours and the problem is still not resolved. The last level supervisor said she sided with me but was not able to help. I have been a card member for 12 years and their service is the worst i have ever experienced.

I use the bank bill pay and in October accidently sent my Am Ex payment to Mastercard...which I admit was my mistake. I figured it out about three days after the due date when I was reconciling my bank statement. Called Am Ex and gave them authorization to take the due payment directly from my bank account that day. They told me that they would waive the late and interest fee and told me exactly how much I needed to pay the next month which I wrote on the top of my bill and paid exactly on time. Next month, I get a late fee and interest charge. Why? Because I had not paid the entire balance (paid $7962 which was the $8016 minus the $54 fee - which I had been told was removed.)....ah - NOT SO.
The next person I talked to said that they previous person had not removed the fee - but they did now....so, my account was paid in full. Furthermore, because of the mixup, they removed the new fee. OK - I am thinking this is all squared away - and fine and dandy....WRONG! My 12/25/11 balance said $4202.67 due January 19, 2012 - so, like a good person, I paid $4202.67 in full on January 19, 2012. But, no! Since the previous OCTOBER bill had not been paid in full (it has by now several time), they continue to carry over the previous late fees, because SOME of that money was late...huh?
How??? I asked does a bill paid in full and ON TIME have a $49 interest charge assessed....because back in October this was late - but, I asked, it has been paid in full every month since, and you keep adding interest charges - why? Because of the one late bill in October....this is like an Alice in Wonderland story - and I am not making this stuff up.
I am not ever going to charge anything on Am Ex again - going and pay off the balance this month (well I hope) - but probably will get perpetual bills for interest from them until the day I die......what a piece of work! Totally unethical!

I have an old cancelled card that is nearly paid off. I went to log in this morning (before coffee) and wasn't remembering my password correctly. When I got the 3rd time warning I decided to back out and log on later after waking up some. When I backed out it locked me out saying that I failed the 3rd attempt.

I called customer service and they asked for every bit of personal info it would take to commit fraud with, yet they would not reset my password. I was told that they do not do that and my only option would be to call every month and give all of my personal info out every month. Its a cancelled card! It can't be used, they don't have to give out my info to reset a damned password..its like they're begging me to stop paying them.

As with America, AMERICAN EXPRESS IS DETERIORATING! When you speak to an AMERICAN...all is well!! BUT THEY ARE "OUT-SOURCING THEIR ACCOUNT, FRAUD AND CUSTOMER SERVICE TO INDIA, AND OTHER 3RD WORLD COUNTRIES.. with unacceptable results!!! Today I waited 31 minutes and then 29 minutes to speak to a rep. in INDIA! Polite but morons!!! For thoses who want to speak to an American... Do this: within a minute...after you are asked to punch in your credit card number...hit ZERO...and when they ask you again hit ZERO again!!! Also try 1-800 253 1709 for almost immediate help!! keep smilimg!!!

AMEX is good until a certain point then they absolutely treat you like scum.

I held an account with them for 2 years, wasn't late a single payment. Ran my bill up as high as 9k a month and paid it off every time. Then someone steals my card number and spends 2k at Bloomingdales.com. They handled the dispute perfectly, credited back the account ASAP and did not expect me pay for any of it as expected. Then about a week later they shut my card down while I was on a business trip across the country. When I called they made me submit all my financial information for the last 2 years and it took a week for them to review the account and get the card working again. They absolutely would not rush it regardless of my current situation on a business trip. Meantime I'm in NY on a business trip with my main card shut down literally spenbing hours on the phone just trying to get the right person. It takes them literally 24 hours just to receive a fax, and they don't take financial information over email so I was stuck waiting. It was absolutely the worst customer experience I have ever had with any business.

AMEX's front end customer service is amazing, they are the guys that answer the phones when you call and any normal questions. When you account is under review though for whatever reason they treat you like you're scum. I spend over 150k with that company...they treated me like I dodge payments and was late every single month. I will never use them again, the Capital One Venture card has better perks, is cheaper, and they always call you if their is an issue of any sort.

American Express will never hold my business again, and I will make it a point to share what happened to me every chance I get. Kenneth Chenault should fire every person I dealt with before jumping to Capital One.

Such a bad company to do business with ... They went so far that they are asking applicants to pay the 57$ fee so they can receive the applicants tax returns from the IRS without giving any warranty that they are going to approve any card for the applicant.
such a low scam ...
What's next? They are going to ask us to send money to Nigeria or to cash some checks and then send them part of the money back?
So ridiculous !!!

The Rebate Check that AmEx issues to Costco cardholders arrives in the same envelope as the regular monthly statement. I accidentally shredded that page, called back and asked for the replacement. I was told to wait 30 days 'till my next scheduled statement arrives. I patiently did. After it arrived, the check wasn't there - I called and was told that the "commuter glitch perverted the issuance of the check", and I must wait another 30 days! I complained to no avail -- they are using MY MONEY ($600), and now I must wait another 30 days? AmEx used to be a prestigious and respectable firm -- they have lost when they had. So sad ... I'm thinking of cancelling my card as soon as I'll receive the rebate.

I am a 33 year holder of AMEX and today I was asked to respond to a survey
TOTAL frustration..They noted that I had an incorrect password. I NEVER put a password up
SO did not complete...
Quite frankly the entire process was a PAIN..

membership rewards program does not work as stated. When using your points you are first charged for the items. You must first pay for the items (which is not stated)! Then you must follow up on the charges that you have paid by contacting membership rewards to FIX THE PROBLEM. So far I have been waiting 2(two)months for a CREDIT on items that were never supposed to be charged in the first place!! VERY, VERY, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I AM ON THE 5TH CALL!

Could not talk to a rep unless I had my Account number But, with this web site I followed the instructions and I got to talk to a rep with out my account number.

my 87 year old mother has a hard time hearing so with her permission i talked with customer service about closing her account and paying her bill off in full..we did this the day she got her statment..the next month we got a bill for intrest..she closed the account and paid it in full..there have been no charges for 2 years and we are charged intrest for a zero balance and absolutely no one would help us

We are a merchant and have been having a problem with one of our terminals for 3 months now! Hopeless contacting the call centre as we can't make them understand what the problem. They come up with their own ideas and you can't budge them. 2 of our terminals, each with different commission rates have been programmed as one and we are being charged the hight rate for both. Have contacted call centre several times, sent emails and letters which have all been ignored. How does an Amex merchant get problems such as this corrected?

If you don't have the 15 digit credit card number, it is extremely difficult to get a live person at AE. After many attempts I found contactthehelp.com and got the number I needed and what I needed to get to speak to a live person!!!!

I needed to pay my daughter-in-laws' bill while she is overseas and I do not have the card in my possession nor was the complete number on the statement which I just received and the bill is due tomorrow! I had to get it paid today. Love all the time they give you to get it paid!

Any way, once I did reach a representative (George) and got thru the gauntlet of security questions, the process went smoothly. George was great and extremely helpful.

Nightmare to get card canceled today. Took over 26 minutes as customer support would not accept "I just don't want it" as a valid reason to quit card. David said quote "I will not cancel your card until you listen to me" then when on to lecture me on my bad decision. His supervisor Larry was equally impossible to deal with. I have a very small CREDIT yet they gave me no information as to when I can expect to get it refunded. The company needs serious reevaluate how it treat the public!

I had a serious problem with a merchant and was extremely worried and needed help. I had paid on my american express card and the support they gave me was the BEST really and truley. These people were brilliant !
